- Baby & Toddler DevelopmentHi mamas, I need some advice! 🥲 I recently enquired about violin lessons for my 5.5-year-old and was quoted $75 for 30 mins! That's like $150 an hour! 😱HALF AND HOUR ..... I imagine they will go in, speak a bit, tell her to hold the bow, hold the violin, maybe not even... maybe tell her how to name the parts of the violin like here's the string, here's the scroll... put under your chin... finish. BYE $75. Cha-ching. Is this the norm now? I remember my own music lessons being way cheaper back in the day. Swimming lessons are also crazy expensive—I’ve walked up to a coach at our condo to ask for his rates cos I saw him teaching other kids, and he quoted $80–90 per 30-min session for a 1-1 lesson. How is anyone affording this? Are there cheaper options, or is this just the reality of parenting in Singapore now? Please share your experiences!
- PregnancyHi everyone! I was a little late with aunt flow and I think I'm pregnant?! After trying for several months and lots of disappointments (I'd test as I was late and it'll turn out negative, then I get my period the same day or next 🙄), I think it's a positive! I'm currently using the hcg test strips. With my previous pregnancy like 6 years ago, I was using Clear Blue which was, well, very clear. With the first strip I had a very faint positive line within the first 5 minutes which is when the test had said to read it. I also read about evaporation lines and stuff. I think after multiple disappointments I'm afraid it's a false positive. Does a very faint positive line indicate a positive??
- Baby & Toddler DevelopmentHi fellow parents! My son just turned 2.5 years old and I'm already getting bombarded with ads for enrichment classes - everything from Heguru to Shichida, music classes to art sessions. Some of my friends started their kids at 6 months old! I'm feeling the pressure but also wondering if it's really necessary at such a young age. Currently we just do lots of reading, puzzles, and outdoor play at home. Parents who have been through this - did you do enrichment classes? At what age? Was it worth the investment? Did you notice any difference compared to children who didn't attend? Also curious about which centers in Singapore you'd recommend (or warn against). Our budget is around $200/month.
