Professor Yap Hui Kim is a distinguished paediatric nephrologist, serving as Head and Emeritus Consultant of the Division of Paediatric Nephrology at the Khoo Teck Puat - National University Children's Medical Institute, and Medical Director of the Paediatric Kidney Transplantation Programme at the National University Centre for Organ Transplantation. She graduated from the University of Singapore in 1978, earning her MMed (Paediatrics) in 1981 and MD in 1995. After advanced training in paediatric nephrology at UCLA, she established Singapore's first paediatric renal service with dialysis and transplantation capabilities at NUH.

A trailblazer in her field, Prof Yap is celebrated for her contributions to clinical care, research, and education. Her groundbreaking work in childhood nephrotic syndrome includes pioneering studies on interleukin-13 and its role in minimal change nephrotic syndrome. She has received numerous accolades, such as the NKF Gift of Life Award, Healthcare Humanity Award, and the National Outstanding Clinician Award. Prof Yap’s research has attracted over $5 million in funding, with her team making significant advancements in understanding and treating focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. She is also the President of the International Paediatric Nephrology Association and an esteemed educator at NUS.
